Veteran Trauma and Transparency Program
The Veteran Trauma and Transparency Program is an interdisciplinary workshop series for third- and fourth-year undergraduate and graduate students. The program increases awareness of military culture and veteran experiences for future service providers. It also prepares students to improve the quality of care for veterans. Training includes exposure to sensitive content and personal stories.
Professional Development Certificate in Trauma-Informed Care (TIC)
Trauma-informed Care (TIC) is an approach that organizations and individuals can adopt to address the widespread effects of trauma. TIC promotes understanding of trauma and its impact on wellbeing. Training is essential, but cost, travel, and time can create barriers. This training is self-paced, free of charge, and available through Public Health and YOU.
The training provides a foundational curriculum on the core components of Trauma-informed Care. Learners can also explore TIC applications for specialized populations. Available populations include youth, Veterans, people with intellectual/developmental disabilities, and justice-involved individuals.
Learners seeking CEUs must complete the Foundations of TIC module, which requires four hours. They must also complete one population-specific application, which requires two hours. Completing both modules provides a certificate of completion for credit. The total training time is six hours.
Creative Arts for Vets (CAV)
Creative Arts for Vets (CAV) supports veterans, service members, and military-connected populations of all ages and abilities. The program uses arts and arts-based approaches to promote connectedness and improve mental health and wellbeing. Evidence-based research supports arts-based wellness, equine assisted activities, and yoga. These approaches can improve mindfulness and reduce feelings associated with stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma.
Creative Arts for Vets collaborates with veterans, service members, military-connected populations, community organizations, and the Indiana Department of Veteran Affairs. Together, they develop experiences that reflect the needs and interests of specific communities. All events are free, and the program travels throughout Indiana and beyond. Veterans and service members are encouraged to bring a spouse, friend, or adult family member to each event.
