Scholarship & Research Focus

Otrude’s scholarship uses a transdisciplinary, local-to-global approach to address social issues. Her work centers Indigenous knowledge and historically marginalized perspectives. She studies social development, inequality, and change in Southern Africa and the African Diaspora.

Her research uses methods such as auto-ethnography and collaborative applied research. These approaches support community engagement and knowledge co-creation. Her work emphasizes inclusive and context-driven research practices.

Teaching & Practice Areas

Otrude has over two decades of teaching experience in higher education. She explores intercultural learning and collaborative online international learning. Her work also includes community-based education and substance abuse prevention.
